Welcome to Holy Cow Yoga Studio! We offer a variety of classes – some more vigorous, some more relaxing – but the heart of our center is mindful, accessible yoga.
Our philosophy is rooted in the knowledge that yoga unfolds on many layers, including body, heart, and mind. As our outward journey evolves, we also discover a path of inner wisdom. The spiral, a universal symbol depicted in ancient societies across the globe, represents this gradual movement toward a deeper sense of well being. We continue to realize growth in healing and insight as we come full circle again and again.
Yoga practice helps students improve their health, resilience, flexibility, strength, and balance. Our aspiration is to make these benefits accessible to diverse students of varying ages, backgrounds, and physicalities. Teachers at our studio strive to offer an intelligent yoga practice that can adapt to the individual needs of our students.
We also honor the contemplative side of the yogic tradition, incorporating mindfulness practice alongside yoga, and blending the power of meditation with conscious movement.
Whatever your reasons for practicing yoga, we hope to help support you through the many illuminating twists and turns your path will take.
Holy Cow Yoga has been an integral part of the Courtenay downtown core since 2014. With recent ownership changed to Joyce Dawn in 2017, the studio continues to thrive and is blossoming into its next stage of life with a variety of classes and wide range of abilities welcome.
Flow classes are known for their fluid, movement-intensive practices. Instructors choreograph their classes to smoothly transition from pose to pose and often play music to keep things lively.
Hatha yoga is an old system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises), which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.
This is a great place for anyone thats starting out in their yoga practice.
Kundalini Yoga is a powerful yogic tradition that is thousands of years old yet suited for today’s world, it’s challenges and it’s victories. It combines asana (postures) with pranayam (breath) and mantra (sacred sound). The word yoga means “to yoke, to unite.” Kundalini yoga balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, and brings the mind, body and spirit into balance. Kundalini Yoga is also called the Yoga of Awareness. With regular practice, you become more aware of and live more from your authentic self.
Kundalini Yoga class follows this structure:
• Opening chant to tune in
• Breathing exercises / warm-up exercises
• Kriya (dynamic yoga set)
• Relaxation • Meditation
We invite you to experience the class with bare feet. Closing your eyes during class will help you stay within and experience the class more intensely.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga codified and popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century which is often promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga.
Currently we offer our Ashtanga class one day a week. You can find us practicing Sundays from 9:30-11:00. This is currently a self taught practice.
Restorative yoga is designed to bring you to a state of deep relaxation. The class has an enormous ability to relieve physical and mental symptoms of stress, leaving you in a healthier state at the start. Our Relax and Restore is a great way to start your week.
Our Yin class is a gentle class focusing on slowing down the body and mind. In this class you will get a beautiful full body stretch and nurturing meditation.
